MAKING MEMORIES LAST WITH MEDIA DIGITIZING STATIONS

BARRY-LAWRENCE REGIONAL LIBRARY INTRODUCES FREE MEDIA DIGITIZING STATIONS TO PRESERVE LOCAL HISTORY AND FAMILY HERITAGE
The Barry-Lawrence Regional Library (BLRL) is excited to launch its new Media Digitizing Stations, a cutting-edge resource designed to help community members rescue their most cherished memories from aging physical formats. The stations are located at four BLRL locations: Monett, Mt. Vernon, Aurora, and Cassville. This high-value service lets patrons easily convert film, negatives, slides, 8mm video, VHS tapes, audio cassettes, and more into high-quality digital files. **It may be a good idea to call ahead to schedule a time for your conversion, as long videos may take hours to process.**
At BLRL, our mission is to continuously seek creative ways to enrich our patrons' lives and strengthen our community. Media formats like magnetic tape and photographic slides degrade over time, putting decades of family history at risk of being lost forever. With state-of-the-art equipment, BLRL ensures every resident can safeguard their personal history, hear the voices of departed loved ones again, and instantly share precious moments across the globe with a click.
Whether you’re unlocking long-lost family movies for the first time or preserving cherished memories to share across generations, BLRL provides this high-value technology to our community completely FREE of charge—all you need is your library card to start bringing your past into the future.
Real Stories from Our Community
This new service's true value lies in the emotional connections it restores. Early patrons of the Digitizing Station have already uncovered unforgettable moments:
"I saw 8mm reels from when I was a baby for the very first time—and got to watch my parents laughing together when they were young. Seeing their movements and smiles from decades ago brought back a piece of my history I thought was lost forever, and I was able to share them with my daughter."— Gina
"We had our wedding tape stored in a box for over 30 years and never had the right type of machine to play it on. Converting it at the library let us relive our wedding day all over again. It felt like stepping back in time."— Greg & Stephanie
"Watching my old graduation tape was overwhelming in the best way. It was filled with the faces and voices of family members who are no longer with us. Being able to digitize that video means their memory lives on."— Lee Ann
