BLRL Branches Closed October 12 for Annual Staff Training Day
Mark your calendar now so you don’t make a library trip and find the doors closed. All BLRL branch locations will be closed on Monday, Oct. 12, for our annual Library Staff Training Day.
We know a closed day can throw off your plans, especially if you were hoping to pick up holds, return materials, use library computers, or get help from staff. That’s why we’re sharing the reminder early and clearly.
This training day gives BLRL staff time to learn together, practice new skills, and focus on ways to serve the community better. The goal is simple: when the branches reopen, we want every visit to feel smoother, friendlier, and more helpful.

What will be closed on October 12
Every BLRL branch location will be closed for the day on Monday, Oct. 12. That includes regular in-branch services such as browsing shelves, checking out materials in person, using public computers, attending in-person programs, and getting help at the service desk.
Why we take a staff training day
Libraries change all the time. New tools come in. Community needs shift. Questions get more varied. Technology updates. Programs grow. Policies need review. Staff training gives everyone time to step away from the busy service desk and work on the skills that help day-to-day library service run well.
That might mean reviewing customer service practices, learning more about library resources, improving internal processes, or making sure staff are ready to answer common questions clearly and with a special focus on reader advisory. We’re always working to better our service to our community, and this day is one of the ways we make space to do that work with care.
We appreciate your patience
Closing the branches for a day isn’t something we take lightly. We know the library is part of many people’s weekly routines. It’s where folks find their next favorite book, use technology, bring children for learning time, study in a quiet space, and connect with helpful staff.
That’s exactly why training matters.
A strong library depends on people who keep learning. When staff have dedicated time to train together, they can come back better prepared to help with everyday questions and unexpected ones too. That benefits everyone who walks through the doors.
Thank you for working around this short closure and for supporting the staff who serve the BLRL community throughout the year.
We’ll see you after training day
Again, all BLRL branches will be closed Monday, Oct. 12, for Annual Library Staff Training Day. If you need materials, help, or in-person services, please plan your visit before the closure or after branches reopen.
Thanks for your understanding. We’re looking forward to coming back from training day ready to serve you even better.
