Unearth History: Discover. Capture, Preserve, Historically Significant Photos.
Contest Start Date: Monday, March 23, 2026
Entries will be displayed: April 6th through August 3rd
Inspiration & Ideas:
Then-and-now concept: find an old picture and recreate it with a modern twist.
Meaningful locations: architecture, landmarks, unique vistas.
Show traditions: photograph the unique cultures that make up our history.
Hidden historical gems: display the interesting, little-known history of our communities.
Some Ideas:
Historic buildings, downtown architecture, schools, churches & homes
Parks, museums, scultures or murals
Bridges, ruins, railroads, and old highways
Family heirlooms tied to local history
Reenactments/re-creations of historical events.
Age Categories: (If younger, they can still compete but will be placed in the YouthCategory.)
Youth: 8 -12
Teen: 13 - 17
Adult: 18+
Contest Requirements:
Photos must be taken within the submissions library’s community.
Submissions must be the original artwork of the photographer and cannot violate privacy, trademark, or copyright laws.
Submissions must be appropriate and cannot depict discrimination or any forms of obscene, graphic, or defamatory content.
Online submission or Physical printed submission?
When submitting, you should title the photograph and provide a caption explaining the historical significance.
Photographers name and age category
Photo modifications and editing is allowed.
Printed/physical photos must be delivered to any branch of the BLRL prior to August 3rd, 2026, to be considered for the contest. (Attach a note with text explaining the significance of the photo(s).)
